About Andys

A BRIEF HISTORY OF ANDY'S

We are continually asked who is Andy? This give us the inspiration to develop this page. Andy was named after a previous owner Andy Graham.

Details regarding the history of the business can be traced back to the 1950's. At this that time it belonged to local publican & undertaker, Ross Kennedy.

Ownership passed to Andy Graham, who successfully ran the business until 1979. These photographs were taken by local photographer Donal McEnroe shortly before Andy sold the business.

As you entered the pub the counter was located on the right hand side. A row of snugs were on the opposite side.

Shortly after these photographs were taken, local businessman Paddy Boyle, purchased Andy's and demolished the building, Andy's Bar reopened in 1980 with the addition of a first floor restaurant.

In August 1983 our family took over the lease of the restaurant. After six successful years of trading we purchased the business from Paddy and Pearl Boyle. Eldest son Sean joined the kitchen brigade on a full time basis in 1989, followed by Aisling, restaurant manager, in 1995, and finally youngest son Kevin took up full time employment in the bar in 2001. Kevin lecturers in hospitality management on a part time basis in both the Irish American University Dublin (formerly American College Dublin) and also in the Southern Regional College, Newry.
